Julia Puebla Fortier

SHE/HER

Working at the intersection of community engagement, research, and policymaking, Dr. Julia Puebla Fortier uses collaborative and multidisciplinary approaches to support health and wellbeing. In the emerging field of creative health, she works with artists, community organisations, and health care systems to use the arts for public health impact. Recent projects focus on supporting the mental health of young people through creative activities; cultural engagement to reduce disparities related to social isolation and end of life; and professional development for artists who work in health and social care, including through social prescribing.

Julia is also an international leader in research and policymaking on health equity. This work includes using practice-based research and multi-stakeholder collaboration to support global consultations on migrant health and to develop national legislation, standards, and research agendas for culturally and linguistically appropriate health services.

She uses and teaches qualitative, participatory, and creative research and evaluation methods and policy analysis techniques. She has worked on projects in North America, Europe, and Asia, and with international organisations. Julia’s creative life includes writing, choral and instrumental music, and mixed media.
