J. Matt McCrary

J. Matt McCrary, PhD is a former professional drummer and multidisciplinary health sciences researcher currently working as Scientific Staff at the Institute of Human Genetics, Hannover Medical School. Dr. McCrary’s diverse expertise is encapsulated by the breadth of his current projects: creation of new wearable and questionnaire-based systems to reliably capture and prescribe the autonomic nervous system effects of music; development of consensus recommendations to the European Commission for improved access to and efficiency of cancer genetic diagnostics and counselling; establishment of a new guideline for best-practices in promoting hearing health in performing artists. His work has been recognized and supported by Fulbright (US/Australia) and Humboldt (US/Germany) Fellowships and grants and awards from government, non-profit, and professional organizations in Australia, Germany, the UK and the US. In addition to his work at Hannover Medical School, Dr. McCrary presently serves as Secretary, Board of Directors of the Performing Arts Medicine Association, on the Editorial Board of the scientific journal Medical Problems of Performing Artists, and is an Adjunct Lecturer at the Prince of Wales Clinical School, UNSW Sydney.
