Dr. Carlos Chirinos
Dr. Carlos Chirinos is a Clinical Music and Global Health Associate Professor at NYU and Director of the NYU Music and Social Change Lab. His research explores the impact of popular music on public health behaviors, with a focus on the role of music artists and songs in shaping health communication narratives. He is the recipient of the “Ebola Grand Challenge Award” by the White House Office of Science and Technology, the CDC and USAID for his work in creating Africa Stop Ebola, a health promotion campaign in West Africa utilizing music celebrities, songs, radio programs and a reality TV show to educate the public about Ebola prevention. Dr. Chirinos has extensive experience working in Africa and Latin America, and his work has published and reported in major media outlets such as the BBC, CNN, New York Times, The Guardian, Washington Post and NPR. He holds a Master’s degree in Music and a Ph.D from the University of London, United Kingdom.
